What is CBN

Cubic Boron Nitride Cubic boron nitride, abbreviated as CBN or cBN. At present, the existence of this substance in nature has not been found, and it is a kind of artificially synthesized superhard material.

Cubic boron nitride (CBN) is a superhard material second only to diamond in hardness. It not only has many of the excellent properties of diamond, but also has higher thermal stability and chemical inertness towards iron group metals and their alloys. As a structural material, it is widely used in the industry for the processing of ferrous metals and materials from their alloys.

Cubic Boron Nitride Cubic boron nitride powder is used for precision grinding, lapping, polishing and superfinishing to obtain a high-precision machined surface.

What is an CBN grinding wheel What is CBN grinding wheel, what is CBN?

Using CBN (cubic boron nitride) abrasives as raw materials, metal powder, resin powder, ceramics and electroplated metals are used as binders to make products of various shapes. The tools used for grinding, polishing and grinding are called CBN abrasives . Compared with diamond grinding wheel, CBN has more advantages in ferrous metal processing.

The structure of abrasives based on CBN

The structure of an abrasive tool made of cubic boron nitride usually consists of three parts: the working layer, the matrix and the transition layer. The working layer, also known as the CBN layer, consists of abrasives, binders and fillers and is the working part of the abrasive tool. The transition layer, also known as the CBN-free layer, is composed of binder, metal powder and filler and is the part that firmly connects the CBN layer to the substrate. The substrate is made of aluminium, steel or bakelite and plays the role of supporting the working layer and holding the abrasive tool.

The grinding wheels made of CBN abrasives can be divided into four types according to different processing methods and bonding components: CBN grinding wheels with electroplated coating, CBN grinding wheels with sintered coating, CBN grinding wheels with resin, CBN grinding wheels with ceramic bond;

Grinding wheel made of boron (CBN) suitable for processing products

Cubic boron nitride (CBN) grinding wheels are suitable for the following materials: ① high manganese steel; ② high chromium, nickel, molybdenum steel; ③ hardened iron (HS80-90); hard steel (HRC55). ~65); ⑤All kinds of cast iron (HB200~400), etc., which have been used in domestic automobiles (gears, flywheels, shafts, bearings, etc.), shafts, slurry pumps (impellers, scroll and other processing), press molds, cylinder liners; ⑥ glass, gemstones and other soft and strong materials of high hardness, which solve the cutting process of high hardness and hard-to-cut materials in various industries, and can improve work efficiency and greatly save processing hours and electricity, and get huge economic benefits.

Cubic boron nitride is not suitable for grinding hard alloys and non-metallic hard materials. At high grinding temperatures, CBN reacts chemically when it comes into contact with an alkaline aqueous solution. CBN grinding wheel decomposes in alkaline solution at 300°C, and can decompose in a small amount in boiling water. As a result, the crystal shape of the abrasive grains will be destroyed, so only oil-based coolants can be used when grinding, not water-based coolants.
